Kalavantin Durg :
Known to be one of the best trekking spots in the Sahyadri mountain range Kalavantin Durg is a fortress at a height of 2,330 feet, off the old Mumbai-Pune road. Considered as moderate to difficult level trek, you can enjoy the view of the nearby Prabalgad Fort as well as see the city of Mumbai if the weather is clear. Once you reach the top you can see Prabalgad Chanderi Peb Matheran Irshalgad and Ulhas River.
Main attraction to Kalavantin Peak is the climb till Pinnacle. Steps have been carved in the mountain which take you to the top of Kalavantin Peak with no protection on one sde with exposure. One has to be very carefull in negotiating them. For many people trek ends here after looking at the exposure and size of steps. Monsoon time makes it more difficult wind adding to the diffculty after you climb the steps. A small rock patch needs to be climbed a rope will help for beginners.Prabalgad :
one of the biggest forts in sahaydri ranges. Prabalgad is a huge uninhabited plateau near Panvel.
Even today one can go and explore it. It has two caves which can be accessed with spacious rooms within it. It offers fantastic views of Kalavantin Durg, Irshalgad, Matheran and Morbe waters., Matherans one tree hill, echo point, louiesa point, and sun set points can be seen from the fort.
The first fortification with steps is a fort called Kalavantin.Durg
Prabalgad lies on the Prabal plateau between Matheran and Panvel and can be seen from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The Ulahas River runs to the east of the fort. The Gadhi River, and the Chanderi and Peb forts are to the west. To the south is the Patalganga River and Manikgad fort and to the north is the Karnala fort.

Day-1, 2/4/2015, Friday
09:00 pm – Meeting point-Gardan Hotel near Siber Clg.
10:00 pm – Travel Thakurwadi base village by Bus( night travelling) Day-2, 3/4/2015, Sat
08:00 am – Tea & breakfast
09:00 am – Start Trek from Thakurwadi to Prabal Machi
11:30 am – rest for few min in Village refresh and have some snacks
12:00 am – start trek to Kalavantin Durg.
03:00 pm – come back to Prabal Machi and have a typical village food in lunch
03:30 pm – After lunch, rest
05:00 pm – Explore Prabal Machi village & enjoining sun set.
07:00 pm – Campfire / Games .etc
09:00 pm – Dinner (Village Food)
11:00 pm – Good Night Day-3 4/4/2015, Sun
06:00 am – Wakeup call
07:00 am – Breakfas
08:00 am – Start trek from prabal Machi to Prabalgad
10:30 am – Reached on the fort Explore the Prabalgad fort, Caves etc…
2:00 pm – Descending from fort & Lunch at base village
04:00 pm – Return journey
We will be returning to Kolhapur by 12:00 am tentatively (depends on traffic conditions )
1) 1 trek pants / Loose Trousers / Full sleeves preferred.
Carry Light Weight Cloths so that your bag is not heavy.
2) A water bottle (at least 2 liters (1 liter each) carry 2 bottles separately)
3) Shawl and sweater as it is very cold weather.
4) Good Trekking shoes.
5) Cap & sunglasses.
6) Bag-pack or trekking bags no hand bags to be carried.
7) Torch with extra Batteries.
8) Medicine (for those who require usually) and basic medicine for headache. Body pain etc.
9) Mosquito repellent cream.
10) Toilet kit.
Smoking and Alcohol consumption is not allowed
Participants will have to reach 25 mins before at the starting point
Trek Fee once paid will not be refunded on any circumstances.
Parvatarohi should not be held responsible for any natural calamities or the situations which are beyond control.
Follow instructions given by leaders.
Please avoid wearing gold ornaments and do not carry any valuable things.
Kolhapur Hikers will not be responsible for any type of injuries during trek.
1) Smoking and drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited..
2) The leader’s decision will be final and binding on all members.
3) No Arguments will be entertained.
